Frequently asked questions about the site
Questions about the site itself. Questions about your town’s weather, about the eclipse or about a public holiday are answered on each subject page.
Frequently asked questions about the site
Where does the forecast come from?
From MET Norway, the Norwegian meteorological institute, which publishes a global forecast under a licence that allows commercial use. Every town page names the model, the time of the model run and the link to the source. We run no model of our own and never blend models.
Can I use this site as an emergency alert?
No. Forecast, earthquake, hurricane, fire and air quality here are reference information. When risk is imminent, what counts is the alert from your local civil protection authority through its official channels. A static site cannot keep up with a fast event.
Why are some towns not on Google?
Because the page exists but is not indexed. Only towns with measured search demand or enough size go into the index, and never a town that gets the same forecast as a far larger neighbour a few kilometres away. Those pages stay online, answer normally, and carry no advertising.
Does the site know where I am?
No. We neither ask for nor read your location: the town shown is the one in the page address, identical for everyone. That is unusual for a weather site and it is deliberate.
Where do the photos come from?
From Wikimedia Commons, under a licence that allows commercial use, with the author and the licence printed under each photo. We download them and serve them from our own server. No photo appears on two pages, and a subject with no freely licensed photo stays without one.
Who writes the text?
The figures come from the official sources and are never typed by hand. The text around them is written here, subject by subject, from public research. When there is little public material on a subject the page stays short — we prefer short and true to long and padded.
How is the site paid for?
By advertising. It does not influence which towns get a page or what the text says. Pages without verified data show no advertising at all, because monetising a page that admits it has no answer is exactly what the advertising policy forbids.
I found a mistake. What do I do?
Write in through the contact page with the page and the figure. If you include the link to the official source with the correct value, the fix goes out the same day.
